Services

Your eyes are one of the most important parts of your body. That’s why regardless of your age or physical health, it’s important to have regular eye exams. Ashley Ott, owner and optometrist at Robertsdale Eye Care, provides comprehensive eye care using the latest technology and latest treatment options.

An eye exam offers the best way to understand the current condition of your eyes and eyesight. These findings can provide important information about your overall health, particularly diabetes and high blood pressure. We specialize in the diagnosis, treatment and management of a wide array of eye diseases, conditions, and problems. Once we determine the health of your eyes, we can provide the right treatment or prescription to restore or maintain eye health.

Comprehensive Eye Exams

During a complete eye exam, Dr. Ott will not only determine your prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses, but will also check your eyes for common eye disorders and diseases such as blepharitis, glaucoma, cataracts, dry eye, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. This exam can include a number of tests and procedures to examine and evaluate the health of your eyes and the quality of your vision.

Your very first visit to Robertsdale Eye Care will most likely include dilation of the pupils. Dilation is very important because it allows a better view into the back of the eye so your eye doctor can fully assess your ocular health. For most people, dilation causes sensitivity to light and blurred vision up close. The effects usually last 4-6 hours, but the majority of people can drive just fine with a pair of sunglasses. If you feel uncomfortable driving dilated or have never been dilated before, you should bring a driver to your very first appointment.

Pediatric Eye Care

Vision doesn’t just happen. A child’s brain learns how to use the eyes to see and how to interpret sight, just like it learns how to use legs to walk or a mouth to form words. The longer a pediatric vision problem goes undiagnosed and untreated, the more a child’s brain learns to compensate, which can lead to amblyopia, commonly referred to as a lazy eye, or worse.

Regular comprehensive eye examinations with an optometrist are so important for children. Eighty percent of all learning is performed through vision. Early detection and treatment provide the very best opportunity to correct vision problems, so your child can learn to see clearly and interpret vision efficiently. Make sure your child has the best possible tools to learn successfully by getting them an exam. Dr. Ott has two children of her own, so she can help navigate your child through their eye exam in a fun, “non-scary” way.

Emergency Eye Care

If you are suffering from an eye care emergency and require treatment, Robertsdale Eye Care is here to help! Eye emergencies can happen at any time. They are often accompanied by painful and/or irritating symptoms. At Robertsdale Eye Care, we provide emergency eye care services outside of our normal business hours. The most common reasons that people seek emergency eye care services are fear of an eye infection, foreign objects stuck in the eye, blunt injury to the eye, and chemicals or irritants in the eye.

But what symptoms characterize an eye emergency? If you are experiencing any of the following eye issues please seek medical care as soon as possible: pain, irritation, itchiness, stinging, burning, blurred vision or double vision, new floaters, new flashes of light, pink/red eye with or without discharge, foreign objects in the eye, new sensitivity to light, sudden vision loss, or sudden changes in pupil size.

Contact Lens Exams

Contact lenses can provide you with comfort and freedom that traditional eyeglasses may not be able to. Whether you want contact lenses for the first time or need to renew your prescription, it’s best to schedule a contact lens exam with Dr. Ott.

A contact lens exam is different than your comprehensive eye exam. Our doctor can recommend the best contact lenses for you based on a complete eye examination and a review of your visual needs. We strive to match each patient with the right contact lenses that will enhance their lifestyle.
